Microsoft Teams has introduced a redesigned chat and channels experience aimed at simplifying collaboration and improving productivity in hybrid work environments. The update consolidates chats, teams, and channels into a unified view under the "Chat" tab, making it easier to stay on top of conversations without switching contexts.

This can be changed back to what it was before, simply by going into the Teams settings:

Then, go to Chats and channels, then selecting Separate under Viewing chats, teams, and channels.

This allows for the two to be separated and will look like this:
